Export MP4 by default.

Right now a gif file is exported at the end of a recording. Would be nice if there was a way to configure this and make it export a mp4 instead (or in addition to).

Hey @squeaky-nose, yes – currently, Gifox only exports GIF as default. We get asked about this feature quite often and the reason we haven't enabled MP4 export as default is because we want to keep the app lean and focused on GIFs.

We're doing a big app revamp this year (see #299) and we'll have another think to understand if this is something we want and if this can be done elegantly.

In the meantime, the quickest way to convert a recording to MP4 without opening the editor is through the right-click menu in the recordings list – just select Convert > MP4.

Im a software developer. I prefer to use mp4 because its overall better quality and smaller file size. Also the fact that the person watching might want to scrub through the video in something like a github pr / jira ticket. Maybe worthwhile considering this when prioritising :)

Thanks for the workaround - this will definitely make my life easier. You've halved my workflow for exporting to mp4 - Ive been going into the editor then exporting from there!

Let me start off by saying how much I love Gifox. Really nice app.

I found this thread because the gif I exported didn't show some of the important colors, so MP4 would have been a better choice. I'm not sure I want it to default to MP4, necessarily, but it would be great to have a much easier MP4 workflow. For now I believe it is:

• export MP4
• open the folder
• find the mp4 file it exported
• drag it where you need it

The gif workflow is so good, that these manual steps for MP4 feel pretty surprising.

No need to reply... I'm basically just +1'ing something that it sounds like you hear a lot, and I understand the design tradeoffs... Gifox is awesome because it's focused. Good luck with the revamp... I hope you all figure out some brilliant compromise ;)

Not sure that .mp4 that should be a default for everybody, but I would love to have such setting 🙏
