Target Release Date

January 1, 2026

Release Overview

This release introduces comprehensive governance, DAO infrastructure, partner documentation, GitAntivirus workflow enhancements, and web control panel scaffold for SmartContractAudit.

Release Checklist

Pre-Release

  • All feature branches merged to main
  • Version numbers updated
  • CHANGELOG.md updated with all changes
  • Documentation reviewed and updated
  • Dependencies audited for vulnerabilities
  • Security scan completed (CodeQL, GitAntivirus)
  • All tests passing
  • Code review completed
  • Breaking changes documented

Security Review

  • Run npm audit (if applicable)
  • Run GitAntivirus workflow in dry-run mode
  • Review .quarantine/ directory for flagged issues
  • Verify no secrets in codebase
  • Check all configurations have dry-run defaults
  • Validate permissions in workflows (least privilege)
  • Review partner/sponsor integrations for security

Testing

  • Unit tests pass
  • Integration tests pass (if applicable)
  • Workflow tests complete successfully
  • Manual testing of key features
  • Test with dry-run mode enabled
  • Test with dry-run mode disabled (controlled environment)
  • Validate executable permissions on scripts

Documentation

  • README.md accurate and up-to-date
  • All markdown files reviewed for accuracy
  • API documentation updated (if applicable)
  • Partner docs complete and reviewed
  • DAO docs accurate
  • Links verified (no broken links)
  • Examples and tutorials tested

Release Artifacts

  • Create release tag: v2026.01.01
  • Build release artifacts
  • Generate release notes
  • Create GitHub Release (DRAFT initially)
  • Upload any binaries or packages
  • Sign release artifacts (if applicable)

Deployment

  • Deploy to staging environment (if applicable)
  • Smoke test staging deployment

Breaking Changes

None in this release. All new features are additive.

Known Issues

  • Web control panel is a scaffold only, requires custom configuration
  • Billing integration requires Stripe API keys (test mode only initially)
  • DAO smart contracts not included (off-chain governance only)
  • PGP key placeholder in SECURITY.md needs to be added

Migration Guide

No migration required. This release adds new files and features without modifying existing functionality.

  • Node.js 20+ (for merkle generator)
  • pnpm (for package management in workflows)

Security Notes

⚠️ Important Security Configuration

  • DRY_RUN: Enabled by default in all workflows
  • BOT_PINGS_ENABLED: Disabled by default
  • ALLOWLIST_ORGS: Empty by default (restrictive)
  • Permissions: Minimal required permissions only

🔒 No Secrets Included

This release includes NO secrets, API keys, or private keys. All placeholders are clearly marked.

✅ Safe Defaults

  • All destructive operations require explicit opt-in
  • Workflows run in dry-run mode unless overridden
  • Write operations require scoped GitHub token or App
  • Manual approval required for releases

Rollback Plan

If issues are discovered:

  1. Create hotfix branch from previous stable tag
  2. Apply minimal fix
  3. Test thoroughly
  4. Deploy hotfix as patch version
  5. Document incident and prevention
