Add tool use counts

Just found this comment in one of the usual issues around the topic. It also claims to extract tool count via a hook. Is that something that might be of use for this status line?

I spent some time thinking about this. The hook approach is creative, but it runs into a few tricky edges: the hook has no session ID, so call counts bleed across sessions (there are workarounds like keying on $PPID or timestamp heuristics, but each adds its own fragility). Concurrent writes from parallel agents need file locking too. All solvable, but the defense code ends up larger than the feature itself.

claude-lens is deliberately a single bash file that only reads what CC passes through stdin. That constraint is the thing I want to protect. It means one config entry, no moving parts, nothing that can silently break between sessions.

For tool activity tracking specifically, claude-hud is more in that space (active tools, running agents, todo progress). claude-lens is narrower on purpose: rate limit pacing and context visibility, nothing more.

Keeping this open. There's an active request to add more data to the statusline stdin JSON (anthropics/claude-code#40739). If tool counts land there, claude-lens picks them up with zero changes.
