If services are not known in the projects "database", the program could either connect wrong service to port, or give no service on an open port.

By probing ports with either nothing or pre-packaged data, we could read the response and interpret it to different services.
Describe alternatives you've considered
Static service detection is sufficient for popular services that run on default ports, but having the program interpret the response yields better quality and accuracy.
